Singaporean harpist Ashley Lim is a performer and trained harp technician who is able to combine her abilities through technical facility and musicianship and understanding of the complexities of the instrument itself.
As a harp technician, Ashley has apprenticed with Lyon & Healy, Salvi Harps, and Master Harp Technician Peter Wiley. She approaches each instrument she works on with a historical understanding and bespoke care. She has worked on both new harps and old harps including restoring a gift of Bernice Horowitz’s 1961 gold Lyon & Healy style 23 to its former warm sound and playing level as her own personal instrument. Her career as a performer informs her regulation work allowing her to approach sound production, mechanics, and instrument care with precision and insight.
As a performer, Ashley served as Principal Harpist of The Orchestra Now at Bard College. There she held teaching appointments as Adjunct Lecturer of Harp and faculty at Bard Pre-College. Additionally, she has performed with orchestras including the Albany Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, and Buffalo Philharmonic and has appeared at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
